Katherine Irene Kurtz (born October 18, 1944) is an American-born fantasy novelist best known for the Deryni historical-fantasy series. Her work, beginning with Deryni Rising (1970), helped popularize secondary-world historical fantasy. She has also co-written the Adept and Templar books with Deborah Turner Harris and has published numerous novels, short stories and edited anthologies. Kurtz lived for many years in Ireland and later returned to the United States.
