Evan Hunter (born Salvatore Albert Lombino) was an American novelist and screenwriter best known for The Blackboard Jungle and the 87th Precinct police-procedural novels written under the pen name Ed McBain. He published prolifically across genres including crime, mystery and literary fiction, and worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood. He legally changed his name to Evan Hunter in 1952 and continued to publish under several pseudonyms during his career.
