Simon Armitage
Simon Armitage (born 26 May 1963) is an English poet, playwright, novelist, translator and broadcaster. He grew up in Marsden, West Yorkshire, and worked as a probation officer before becoming a full-time writer. Armitage has published numerous poetry collections and translations, written plays and radio/TV scripts, and has served as Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom (appointed 2019). His work is noted for its accessible voice, dry wit, and engagement with landscape and northern English life.
