Carolyn Keene
AmericanChildren's Book
Carolyn Keene is a collective pseudonym used by multiple ghostwriters working for the Stratemeyer Syndicate for the long-running Nancy Drew mystery series (first published 1930). The name was created by Edward Stratemeyer and has been used by writers including Mildred Wirt Benson (Mildred A. Wirt), Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, Leslie McFarlane, Walter Karig, and others. Books published under the Carolyn Keene byline were traditionally produced under work-for-hire contracts and credited to the house name rather than to individual authors.
