Howard A. Norman

Howard Alan Norman (born 1949) is an American novelist, translator, and educator. He is widely recognized for his fiction, much of which is set in Canada's Maritime Provinces, and for his extensive work translating Algonquin, Cree, and Inuit folklore. A former professor in the MFA program at the University of Maryland, Norman has received numerous honors, including a Lannan Literary Award and multiple National Endowment for the Arts fellowships. His novels, such as 'The Bird Artist' and 'The Northern Lights', have been finalists for the National Book Award.
