Władysław Szpilman

Władysław Szpilman (1911–2000) was a Polish-Jewish pianist, composer, and Holocaust survivor. A celebrated musician in Warsaw before World War II, he is best known for his memoir detailing his survival in the Warsaw Ghetto and in hiding during the Nazi occupation of Poland, which was later adapted into the Academy Award-winning film 'The Pianist' by Roman Polanski.
