Dorothy Dunnett

Dorothy Dunnett (1923–2001) was a renowned Scottish novelist, best known for her meticulously researched historical fiction, including the six-volume Lymond Chronicles and the eight-volume House of Niccolò series. Before achieving fame as a writer, she was an accomplished professional portrait painter and a significant figure in Scottish public life. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1992 for her services to literature.
