Stephen Crane
Stephen Crane (1871–1900) was an influential American novelist, poet, short story writer, and journalist. A pivotal figure in the development of literary naturalism and realism, he is best known for his Civil War masterpiece, 'The Red Badge of Courage' (1895), and his gritty depiction of urban poverty in 'Maggie: A Girl of the Streets' (1893). His work is characterized by vivid intensity, irony, and psychological depth. Despite his short life, he produced a significant body of work, including acclaimed short stories like 'The Open Boat,' before dying of tuberculosis at the age of 28.
