Atticus Lish

Atticus Lish is an American novelist known for his debut novel, 'Preparation for the Next Life', which won the 2015 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. Born in Manhattan to literary editor Gordon Lish, he took a circuitous path to writing, including attending Phillips Academy, dropping out of Harvard, serving in the US Marine Corps, working various blue-collar jobs, and training in mixed martial arts. He later returned to Harvard to complete his degree and spent time teaching English in China, an experience that informed his debut novel.
