S. A. Chakraborty (born Shannon A. Chakraborty) is an American historical fantasy and speculative fiction writer based in Queens, New York. She is best known for The Daevabad Trilogy, a series inspired by medieval Islamic history. Her work blends magical narratives with historical intricacies, drawing influence from her conversion to Islam and her love for Middle Eastern history. Chakraborty's debut novel, The City of Brass, was published in 2017 and received critical acclaim and multiple award nominations. She has since published sequels to the Daevabad Trilogy and began a new series, The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, set in the 12th-century Indian Ocean. Her writing has been recognized with nominations for prestigious awards such as the Hugo Award, World Fantasy Award, and Locus Award.
