Sir James Matthew Barrie (1860–1937) was a Scottish novelist and playwright best known as the creator of Peter Pan, a character he introduced in his 1902 novel The Little White Bird and later in the 1904 play Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up. Barrie wrote novels, short stories and plays and became one of the most popular authors and dramatists of his time. He was made a baronet in 1913 and is remembered for his contributions to children's literature and the theatre.
