Helene Hanff
Helene Hanff was an American writer and playwright, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is best known for her book "84, Charing Cross Road," a collection of her twenty-year correspondence with the owner of a London antiquarian bookshop. The book was adapted into a stage play, a television play, and a film. Hanff's career began with writing plays, none of which were produced, and then moved to writing and editing scripts for early television dramas. She also wrote a memoir, "Underfoot in Show Business," about her struggles as a playwright in New York City. Later in her career, she wrote books that gained her wider recognition.
