David John "Dave" Duncan (30 June 1933 – 29 October 2018) was a Scottish–Canadian author best known for his prolific work in fantasy and science fiction, including series such as The Seventh Sword, A Man of His Word, Handful of Men and The King's Blades. Trained as a geologist, he worked in the petroleum industry before turning to full-time fiction in the mid-1980s and published dozens of novels during his career, winning multiple Aurora Awards and becoming an influential figure in Canadian speculative fiction.
