James Sallis

James Sallis (born December 21, 1944) is an American novelist, poet, translator, critic, and musician best known for his work in crime fiction and noir. He is the author of the Lew Griffin series and the Driver novels (Drive, Driven), the former adapted into a 2011 film. Sallis's writing is noted for its spare prose, philosophical undertones, and engagement with music and Southern settings. He has also translated French literature and written nonfiction on music.
