James Clavell
James Clavell (born Charles Edmund Dumaresq Clavell) was a British-American novelist, screenwriter, and director. Born in Australia to a British naval family, he served in the British Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war in the notorious Changi prison in Singapore. This experience profoundly influenced his writing, particularly his best-known work, the 'Asian Saga' series, which explores the clash between Eastern and Western cultures. He also achieved significant success in Hollywood as a screenwriter for films such as 'The Great Escape' and 'The Fly', and as the director of 'To Sir, with Love'.
