Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont (1711–1780) was a French writer and educator, best known for her abridged and moralized version of the fairy tale 'Beauty and the Beast', published in 1756 in her collection 'Le Magasin des enfants'. She spent many years in England working as a governess, where she authored numerous pedagogical works and instructional handbooks aimed at the education of young women.
