William Edmund Butterworth III (pen name W. E. B. Griffin) was an American novelist best known for his prolific military- and law-enforcement-themed fiction. He authored dozens of series including The Corps, Brotherhood of War, Badge of Honor, Men at War, Honor Bound, Presidential Agent, and Clandestine Operations, and published under multiple pseudonyms. Known for historical detail and procedural accuracy, he wrote dozens of bestselling novels and co‑authored many later works with his son William E. Butterworth IV.
