Jasper Fforde (born 11 January 1961) is an English novelist best known for his comic, metafictional Thursday Next series (beginning with The Eyre Affair, 2001). His work blends alternative history, comic fantasy, wordplay and literary allusion. He has also written the Nursery Crime series, Shades of Grey, The Last Dragonslayer books, and several standalone novels. Before becoming a full-time writer he worked in the film industry as a camera assistant. Fforde has won awards for comic fiction and is a regular presence at literary events in the UK.
