Martin Handford (born 27 September 1956) is an English children's author and illustrator best known as the creator of the Where's Wally? (Where's Waldo? in North America) series of highly detailed crowd-search picture books first published in 1987. Handford trained in art, worked as a freelance illustrator drawing crowd scenes, and developed the Wally character for Walker Books. His illustrations and books became internationally successful and have been adapted into various merchandise and screen formats. Handford is noted for his meticulous, densely populated illustrations and a preference for privacy.
