J. R. R. Tolkien was a renowned English writer, philologist, and academic, best known as the author of the high fantasy classics 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings'. A professor of Anglo-Saxon and later English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford, he was a key member of the Inklings literary group and is widely regarded as the 'father' of modern fantasy literature.
