Noel Streatfeild
Mary Noel Streatfeild was an English author born on December 24, 1895. She began her career in theater after attending schools like the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and later worked in a munitions factory during World War I. Streatfeild is best known for her "career" books, which focus on glamorous professions such as acting, ballet, and ice skating, making them appealing to children. Her notable work, "Ballet Shoes," published in 1936, follows three adopted sisters training for careers in the arts. She wrote nearly ninety books, including works for adults under the pseudonym Susan Scarlett. Streatfeild received the Carnegie Medal in 1938 and was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1983. She passed away on September 11, 1986.
