William R. Forstchen

William R. Forstchen (born October 11, 1950) is an American historian, novelist, and professor. He holds a Ph.D. in History from Purdue University with specializations in military history and the history of technology. Forstchen is the author of numerous works of fiction and non-fiction, including the John Matherson post-apocalyptic series (beginning with One Second After) and several alternate-history novels co-authored with Newt Gingrich. He is a Faculty Fellow and Professor of History at Montreat College and lives near Asheville, North Carolina.
